Fine jewelry is made to be worn, but small habits make a real difference. Use this guide to protect the finish, stones, prongs, and settings on engagement rings, wedding bands, diamond jewelry, and everyday fine pieces.
Daily wear
- Put jewelry on after lotions, fragrance, sunscreen, hair products, and makeup have dried.
- Remove rings and delicate pieces before workouts, swimming, heavy lifting, gardening, cleaning, or sleeping.
- Avoid exposing fine jewelry to chlorine, bleach, harsh cleaners, salt water, and repeated impact.
- Store pieces separately so diamonds and gemstones do not scratch softer metals or other stones.
Cleaning at home
For many diamond and gold pieces, a gentle at-home clean is enough to restore brightness between professional checks.
- Mix warm water with a small amount of mild dish soap.
- Soak the piece for a few minutes, then gently clean around the setting with a soft toothbrush.
- Rinse carefully in a bowl of clean water rather than over an open drain.
- Pat dry with a lint-free cloth and let the piece air dry fully before storing.
Do not use abrasive toothpaste, household cleaners, or rough cloths. If your jewelry includes pearls, opals, emeralds, or other more delicate gemstones, ask us before cleaning it at home.
